It’s Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Awareness Month

September is PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) awareness month, so we thought it was the perfect time to help you understand more about this complicated condition and how to alleviate its symptoms.

Firstly, you might be wondering, what is PCOS exactly? Let’s begin by breaking down the name – it stands for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. A polycystic ovary is a growth of follicles (fluid-filled sacs) in one or both ovaries. Despite the name, there are no “cysts” present, but believe it or not, you can have PCOS without even having polycystic ovaries (you can also have polycystic ovaries (PCO) without having PCOS). A “syndrome” is a collection of symptoms characterising a condition.
