๐๐ซOne of the things I like most about summer is the berry season. I'm not a fan of hot weather, but I do like the food that it helps to produce.
When it comes to the "clean 15 and dirty dozen" berries are unfortunately on the dirty dozen (containing highest levels of pesticides), so opt for organic berries, if you can. Buying frozen organic can work out more cost effective!
If you're looking for a refreshing breakfast or snack, I think a smoothie is an excellent way to get in lots of fruit and veg, and it's also very speedy when you're in a rush.
I often make my smoothies by eye, but here is a little recipe for you to try:
Serves: 2
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup of berries of choice (I like buying frozen berries)
1 frozen banana (pre-chopped and frozen)
3 small blocks of frozen spinach
1 thumb of ginger
1-2 tablespoons of Chia seeds
1-2 tablespoons of flax seeds
1 tablespoon of nut butter of choice
1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
1 scoop of protein powder (optional, but I like Nuzest) OR a couple of spoons of yoghurt of your choice
Your choice of milk
METHOD
Add everything to the blender, top up with milk - often it's a bit of trial and error in terms of how thick you want your smoothie. Try adding 1.5 cups and see what you think. You can always add more liquid/water to thin it out.
I use a nutribullet or ninja, to get a super smooth smoothie, but other blenders work fine!
๐Enjoy!
